About
Samuel Djian-Gutenberg
Lecturer, teacher, consultant, translator and writer, Samuel has devoted his life for more than fifty years to humanistic and transpersonal astrology — an astrology turned toward meaning, growth and consciousness.
An unexpected calling
Nothing destined him for astrology. A graduate of Political Science, holder of a law degree, a former student of the Institut Français de Presse in Paris and a doctoral candidate in political science, Samuel nonetheless discovered in 1972 a path that would never leave him. He studied it first on his own, then with Jacques Berthon at the École Supérieure d’Astrologie in Paris (1976-1977), before giving his first consultations and beginning to teach.
In the school of three masters
From 1978 to 1980, he worked alongside Germaine Holley (1904-1995), heir to the work of Charles E. Vouga (1889-1980). It was she who led him to discover Dane Rudhyar (1895-1985), founder of humanistic astrology. In the early 1980s, Samuel spent nearly two years in California with Rudhyar, two of whose books he translated into French: An Astrological Study of Psychological Complexes and Astrology and the Modern Psyche (Librairie de Médicis).
A spiritual quest
His search was not limited to astrology. He travelled to India to study Kriya Yoga in the teaching of Paramahansa Yogananda (1978 and 1981), then to the Findhorn community in Scotland (1983 and 1986). He also translated Leela: The Game of Self-Knowledge by Harish Johari. In 1985 he co-founded the Groupe de Lucinges, in Haute-Savoie, dedicated to the emergence of a new consciousness.
The founding of the CRET
In 1995, Samuel founded the C.R.E.T. — Center for Transpersonal Research and Studies — and developed there a complete training in humanistic and transpersonal astrology. Thirteen cohorts followed one another. The school, in its original form, no longer runs a regular curriculum, but the spirit of that transmission continues through consultations, personalised cycles, seminars and writing.
Today
Now living in the Dordogne, Samuel devotes much of his time to writing — in particular his memoirs, Sur la Route illuminée (On the Illuminated Road, CRET Éditions) — as well as to the creation of oracles and meditation supports. He continues to receive those who consult him, remotely or in person.
